# Shloka Recitation Competition – Introduction, Planning, and Registration
With the objective of instilling good values in students through Sanskrit, this special competition has been organized since 2020 by the Shloka Shikshan Ayam of Sanskrit Bharati in the Western Maharashtra Region (covering the seven districts of Kolhapur, Solapur, Sangli, Satara, Pune, Ahilyanagar, and Nashik).
The National Education Policy 2020 places great emphasis on value education. Sanskrit and its Subhashitas are an excellent medium for value education; hence, this competition holds immense significance.
Last year, 176 schools and approximately 5,000 students from the Western Maharashtra region registered for this competition.
1. Nature and Levels of the Competition
This competition is conducted grade-wise for students from Balvatika (Pre-primary) to Class 12 (total 15 groups). The competition takes place across three levels:
- School Level (At your own school)
- Janpad Level (District level)
- Prant Level (Regional level)
2. Registration and Training for Teachers
- Eligibility: It is not mandatory for the school to have Sanskrit as a subject. Any teacher or school with a love for Sanskrit can register.
- Training: For teachers who have no prior knowledge of Sanskrit, online training is provided every Saturday between July and September.
- Planning: After registration, a WhatsApp group for teachers is created. Teachers should involve all students of at least one grade from the school in the competition.
- It is recommended to choose the lowest grade in your school to ensure continuity in the following years.
- Student Count: It is mandatory to have at least ten students from one grade. There is no upper limit on the number of participants.
3. Practice and Resources

2. Marking and Grade-wise Criteria
Judges will award marks impartially based on the following criteria:
- Balvatika to Class 5: Only correct pronunciation and rhythmic recitation.
- Class 6 to Class 8: Correct pronunciation, rhythmic recitation, and the meaning of the Shloka.
- Class 9 to Class 12: Correct pronunciation, rhythmic recitation, the meaning of the Shloka, and critical commentary.
3. Entry Fee and Awards
- Fee: There is a nominal fee of ₹20 per student. Out of this, ₹10 should be deposited into the Sanskrit Bharati account. The remaining ₹10 should be kept by the school management for printing participation certificates.
Awards:
- School Level: Digital participation certificate.
- District Level: Medal and certificate.
- Regional Level: Trophy and certificate.
- The school with the highest participation will be awarded a 'Rotating Trophy'.
