Shlokpathan Kendra

The 'Shlokapathan Kendra' (Shloka Recitation Center) is a vital initiative run by the Shloka Education wing of Sanskrit Bharati. These centers can be effectively operated within the community as well as in schools. Let us understand the details of this initiative through the following five points.

1. Introduction to the Initiative

Sanskrit Bharati started the 'Shlokapathan Kendra' with the aim of promoting the Sanskrit language and preserving cultural values (Sanskars). The primary function of these centers is to impart the skill of pure Sanskrit pronunciation and the knowledge of Subhashitas and Stotras to everyone, from school children to all members of society.

  • The prescribed curriculum for these centers is available on this blog.
  • This is a supplementary curriculum; it does not need to be taught as a separate formal subject in schools.
  • It can be taught easily without disrupting the regular school schedule.
  • It is aligned with the New National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and is structured in tiered levels.
  • If a school takes the lead in running a Shlokapathan Kendra, it can be counted as a special effort by the school toward implementing the National Education Policy.

2. Eligibility and Training

  • Eligibility: The person running the center should be knowledgeable in pure Sanskrit pronunciation. Deep study of grammar is not mandatory for this.
  • Training: Individuals with no prior experience in Sanskrit can also start a center. However, they are required to complete Sanskrit Bharati's 10-day Online/Offline Conversation Class, followed by online training held from June to December.
  • This training takes place every Saturday for 1-2 hours in simple Sanskrit, using Marathi where absolutely necessary.

3. School-Level Planning

It is not mandatory for Sanskrit to be taught as a formal subject in the school to run a center. Any teacher with an interest in Sanskrit can start this center.

  • Implementation: These Subhashitas and Stotras can be recited by students during the Government of Maharashtra's 'Anandi Shanivar' (Happy Saturday) initiative or during the daily assembly. Since audio files are available, students can also practice during free periods.

4. How to Start a Center?

5. Grade-wise Curriculum Objectives

  • The curriculum is divided by grade from Balvatika (Pre-primary) to Class 12. It is expected that one grade's curriculum be completed within one academic year.
  • The following Learning Outcomes are expected based on the age group:
